DAVID HEALY was confirmed as the new manager of Linfield on Wednesday following Warren Feeney’s departure to Newport County.

Healy was introduced to the Windsor Park crowd ahead of the side’s Irish League Cup clash with Ballinamallard. He is well acquainted with the Blues’ home crowd, with 19 of his 36 goals for Northern Ireland coming at Windsor Park.

Healy retired from the game in December 2013 and quickly set about moving into coaching, attending a Uefa B coaching course just weeks later. He has already worked with the Northern Ireland U17 squad, but this will be his first management role.

“When Linfield approached me, it was always going to be one answer and that was yes,” Healy said.

“It’s a famous ground. As I said a lot of the times when I did retire, to the English boys Wembley was magnificent, but to me Windsor Park was my Wembley. To come back here as a manager to oversee what is already put in place, well I just can’t wait to get started.”
