Club Call: the GAA social diary
Aghaderg GFC and Ballyvarley HC: The launch of the walking map and guide of playing fields used in the Ballyvarley area since 1890 and the inaugural walking history tour of the area will take place on Saturday. Historical plaques have been erected at each of the sites and club president Bertie Leckey will unveil a special plaque at Chapel Meadows in Lisnagade, marking the spot where the current club was founded in 1943.
The event begins at 5.45pm, followed by a BBQ at the club at 8pm.
Lissummon: The club’s annual golf classic takes place on Saturday, September, 5 at Cloverhill Golf Club, Mullaghbawn. Contact any committee member to enter a team or sponsor a hole.
Ballymartin: The club will host a ‘Cic Saor’ competition on Saturday, August 29 at Pat’s Road. All clubs in Down and further afield have been invited to take part. ‘Rory’s Stories’ will be compering. First prize for the winning club is a brand new set of O’Neills senior jerseys, with £250 for the winning kicker.
O’Donovan Rossa, Ardboe: Up For the Match, a live panel debate with former Kerry All-Ireland captain Jimmy Deenihan, Tyrone All-Ireland winner and former Allstar Brian McGuigan and all time Tyrone great Noel McGinn and more will take place on Saturday at 8pm in Forbes social club . Jimmy will be signing copies of his book ‘My Sporting Life’, with all proceeds going to the Ardboe club. Admission is free.
Ardmore: The summer camp will take place from Thursday, August 27 until Saturday, August 29, from 10am-2pm each day for ages six-14. Registration forms are available from Annette McCarron, or from any committee member. There is also a family fun day on Sunday, August 30.
Moneymore: The club’s 5k and 10k race and 5k fun run/walk will be staged on Sunday, August 30 at 11am. This year the club will make a donation to the Cormac Trust, with the main aim to get a defibrillator installed at the club grounds and have proper training provided. There will be prizes for the first, second and third male and female in the 10k and 5k. Club Tyrone: Club Tyrone will be hosting a chat show tonight in Garvaghey from 7pm.The event will be chaired by ex-county player Noel McGinn from Teamtalkmag, who will be joined by three-time All-Ireland winner Philip Jordan, Armagh legend Jarlath Burns and Irish News columnist Paddy Heaney. The evening will recognise the first 50 Tyrone dragons who have signed up with Club Tyrone to support the county’s new Acadamh Thir Eoghain (Tyrone Academy). Admission to the pre-match chat show is free and open to anyone to attend, with questions from the floor welcomed. Further information is available from tyronegaa.ie.
