Down Championship good to go

Andy Watters

THE Down Club Football Championships begin on Thursday, with two Intermediate ties getting the action underway as Newry Shamrocks take on Drumaness, while St John’s meet Atticall.

The ties pit sides in almost identical positions in the Down All-County Leagues against each other, with St John’s and Atticall both locked on 12 points from as many games, while Drumaness sit a point clear of Shamrocks in the bottom half of the Division Two standings. Drumaness were four-point victors over the Newry men back in May, while St John’s and Atticall couldn’t be separated when they clashed in the league.

The matches take place at Clonduff, with Shamrocks and Drumaness throwing-in at 6.30pm and St John’s and Atticall at 8pm.

The opening rounds of the Down Club Championship at Senior, Intermediate and Junior level take place from Thursday through to Monday.
