All-Ireland Minor B Ladies' Football Championship final: Tipperary 3-12 Armagh 3-8

ARMAGH’S hopes of a second All-Ireland minor title in four years were dashed by Tipperary, who retained their crown at Kinnegad on Saturday afternoon.

A purple patch either side of half-time proved the difference between the sides as Tipperary opened up some daylight and, while Armagh did not give up and came within two points, they just could not get close enough.

Armagh got off to a great start with two goals in the opening 10 minutes, the first from Aoife Kane and the second, a superb finish, from Blaithin Mackin to lead 2-1 to 0-2.

However, by the 18th minute Tipperary had themselves found the back of the net twice to take a 2-3 to 2-2 lead and with another 1-3 they opened up a six-point lead to lead 3-5 to 2-2 at half-time.

A goal from captain Aimee Mackin, who was double-marked throughout the game, and a point in the first couple of minutes after the resumption had Armagh right back in contention as they cut Tipperary’s lead to three and by the 37th minute it was down to two points.

However, a couple of points from the defending champions doubled their lead again, although determined not to give up without a fight, Armagh brought it back to two points again with two minute remaining.

However, that goal they needed to snatch victory or a brace of points failed to come as time ran out and Tipperary tagged on another few points to make certain of the win.
