Mixed disciplinary news for Ulster sides

THE Central Hearings Committee ruled on disciplinary cases involving Down, Armagh and Monaghan recently and there were mixed responses for the sides and player involved.

Mourne county defender Brendan McArdle was harshly sent off in their Division Two decider against Roscommon and the Annaclone clubman successfully appealed the second of his two yellow cards.

After the game, Rossies full-forward Senan Kilbride acknowledged that he had "made the most" of McArdle's challenge after being given a "little tug" and this admission perhaps played a part in the committee’s verdict.

Armagh defender Finnian Moriarty, meanwhile, appealed the black card that led to his dismissal in the Division Three final against Fermanagh at Croke Park on April 25 but the Wolfe Tones man’s evidence was ‘not sufficiently compelling to rebut the referee’s report’ so the disciplinary action was upheld.

Monaghan duo Kieran Hughes and Dessie Mone both had decisions in front of the committee after they were black carded in the county’s 1-22 to 1-11 Allianz NFL defeat to Dublin on April 5.

Hughes’s appeal was successful but half-back Mone failed with his plea so the original fixed penalty will apply for the Clontibret man.
