McGuigan standing firm on Frampton-Quigg terms

BARRY McGuigan says that Carl Frampton's terms for a potential bout with Scott Quigg are non-negotiable as hopes for the fight continue to fade.

Negotiations have been unable to bring the two sides to resolution, with Frampton's camp wanting a 60 per cent share of the purse, but Eddie Hearn's Matchroom only prepared to offer that to 'The Jackal' if he retains with IBF super-bantamweight title.

Speaking at yesterday's announcement that the BBC Sports Personality of the Year will come to Belfast's Odyssey Arena in December, McGuigan said he "doesn't think" there is valid hope of the fight going ahead this summer and labelled Hearn's terms as "uncouth".

"Carl has the valid title, the IBF title. Scott Quigg has never headlined a bill. He doesn't draw any more than 800 to 1,000 people.

"Frampton is a headline event. He's arguably the best super-bantamweight in the world.

"We were willing to go over there and put our valid title on the line. Frampton's the guy with gravitas.

"But they think because they brought the pay-per-view vehicle that they have the right to embarrass us on television with this uncouth offer."

McGuigan also revealed that Matchroom's unwillingness to sign any of his other five boxers for the undercard was a further sticking point.

He didn't completely rule out a resolution but said: "If he's willing to come back and say that we have a completely 50-50, transparent deal between Matchroom and Cyclone, and he gives Carl 60-40 of the purse, then we're happy to do business with him. Those are the only terms it can work on. We're not going to be bullied into it."
