Tandragee attracts strong line-up

NEXT month's Around A Pound Tandragee 100 Road Races is gearing up to be one of the best renewals in recent years.

The organising North Armagh Motor Club has been successful in attracting the cream of national road races and many from across Europe and beyond for the event which takes place on May 1-2

Heading the line-up will be former World 500 and World 250 Grand Prix rider Jeremy McWilliams, who will team up with Dungannon's Ryan Farquhar in the 650 Twins race on the KMR Kawasaki.

Other entries include Scotsman Keith Amor (BMW), William Dunlop (Tyco BMW), Jamie Hamilton (Burrows Engineering Suzuki), Derek McGee (Wilson Craig Honda), Michael Sweeney (Kawasaki) and Davy Morgan (Magic Bullet Honda).

Add in the likes of Seamus Elliott, Denis Booth, Paul Robinson, and Connor Behan and it certainly looks like it is going to be one of the best meetings for many years.

There is an international feel also with Italian Dario Cecconi, Dubai's Eric Goedhart, France's Fabrice Faivre and Brazilian Rafael Paschoalin all starting.

The meeting has attracted over 350 entries, 60 of which are newcomers, proving that the Tandragee 100 is a major force in national and international road racing.

A prize fund of £10,000 is up for grabs thanks to the generosity of this year's main sponsors - Around A Pound, Tayto NI, Centra Tandragee, Sally McNally, City Autos, Emerald Road Racing Magazine, Traynors Motor Store, Woolsey Freight, Trevor Wade Groupage, Mahon Garden Centre, Hudson Trailers and Mervyn Potts alongside the Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon councils.

Meanwhile, the World Superbike Championships continue this weekend with round four of the season at the Assen Circuit in the Netherlands.

Fresh from his win and runner-up position in last weekend's Aragon round in Spain, Jonathan Rea will be hoping to extend his 15-point lead in the championship.

The Larne rider has been in excellent form all season since his switch to Kawasaki from Honda during the winter months, and with Assen one of Rea's favourite circuits, he will be the man they all have to beat come race day.

Round two of the British Superbike Championships also takes place this weekend with the Brands Hatch Indy circuit playing host

Shane Byrne on the PBM Kawasaki leads the championship after round one on 45 points, from Dan Linfoot (33) and James Ellision (29).
