Eamonn O'Kane will fight an IBF world middleweight title eliminator in Lavey, county Derry on May 2.

O'Kane's opponent hasn't been named but a win on the night - in front of up to 2,000 fans in the club's indoor facility - would pave the way for O'Kane (pictured) to get a crack at the currently vacant IBF world title.

It is expected that Cork-managed Hassan N'Dam will take on Canada's David Lemieux for that title, with O'Kane in line to fight the winner should he come through victorious on May 2.

* FRANK Warren predicts that Paul Butler will bounce back from his IBF world super-flyweight title loss to Zolani Tete. South African Tete unleashed a brutal uppercut to stop Butler in the eighth round and stun the crowd at Liverpool's Echo Arena. "He can come back," said promoter Frank Warren. "But he must learn from what happened tonight."

Butler was considered the pre-fight favourite but the 26-year-old conceded he had lost to the better fighter on the night. "He was very good and very awkward, a better man on the night," Butler said. "I normally have people come towards me. He's a very big kid, and we knew his power by his record. He's a great champion."

* FORMER IBF world middleweight champion Darren Barker (left) will be at Titanic Belfast this Friday night to watch his old amateur club go to war with Dockers Boxing Club.

A 10-fight programme and gala evening will celebrate the 25-year relationship between the Dockers and the famous Repton Boxing Club in East London, which has produced big names such as Barker, ex-world welterweight king John H Stracey and 2000 Olympic heavyweight gold medallist Audley Harrison.

Dockers coach Paddy Fitzsimons and Repton's Tony Burns organised the inaugural event in 1990, and the clubs have maintained a strong bond ever since.

* THE County Antrim Board held its first cuts seminar in the Lansdowne Hotel in Belfast at the weekend, with over 50 club coaches attending.

Dr Sean Donnelly gave a presentation on the physiological impact of cuts to boxers, while renowned trainer Gerry Storey, from the Holy Family club, spoke about how to treat cuts.

The seminar was in accordance with AIBA guidelines, and further events are planned in the coming weeks.

Ahead of the start of the action on St Patrick's Day, the weigh-in will take place this Sunday morning from 9am-10am, also at Falls Leisure Centre.
