A HUGE entry for the inaugural Belfast City Council Invitational 'Belfast Champions' event should ensure three nights of quality boxing this week - with the action getting under way at St Kevin's Hall tonight.
There is quarter-final and semi-final action tonight, with the finals spread over Thursday and Friday.
One of many clubs across Ulster hoping to make a mark is Monkstown, who have five fighters slated for finals action later in the week.
Boy 1 Ryan Gould will face the winner of Odhran McKenna (St Paul's) and Padraig McCleary (Ardoyne HC) in the 29kg decider on Thursday, with Boy 5 Dylan McBroom up against Clonard's Conor Quinn at 52kg.
Adam Esdale takes on Gleann's Ryan McArdle in the Boy 5 63kg final, with Daryl Clarke and Holy Trinity's Daniel Lindsay going toeto-toe in the Boy 6 60kg decider.
Boy 4 Robbie Gould faces St Georges' Eirinn Rocks on Friday night - and Monkstown head coach Paul Johnston (pictured) says his boys could be ones to watch in years to come.
"The likes of Daryl, Adam Esdale, Robbie Gould - they've all won Antrim championships, boxed in All-Irelands and are very much the talent of the future from our club," he said.
"Daryl is a very good counterpuncher - he's never been in with Daniel Lindsay before, so we'll be going into the unknown there.
"Robbie has definitely got a good future ahead of him. He's been with us for a while now, and he's done very well so far."
