Kneen continues his winning ways

MANXMAN Dan Kneen continued his dominance of the Irish Road Racing Championships yesterday when the Burrows Engineering Suzuki rider notched up Superbike and Supersport 600 race wins at the Faugheen Road Races in county Cork.

Kneen, who has already wrapped up the Irish Senior Championship, was again in fine form as he fended off Dublin's Derek Shiels and Skerries rider Michael Sweeney.

Kneen took the Supersport 600 race win in front of Mullingar's Derek McGee and Sweeney before McGee turned the tables on Kneen by taking the Supertwins race win, his first on 2015.

Ballymoney's Sam Dunlop took the honours in the 125cc race.

Meanwhile, the latest round of the British Superbike Championships continued at Oulton Park yesterday in the weekend's triple header. And it was Japan's Riyuichi Kiyonari who took a brace of win in races one and two, while Australian Josh Brookes took the final race win on his Milwaukee Yamaha with a start to finish win.

In race one on Saturday, Buildbase BMW rider Ryuichi Kiyonari took a 0.4-second winning margin over Australian Josh Brookes on his Milwaukee Yamaha with series leader Shane Bryne on the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki in third place.

Kiyonari continued his rich form with another win in race two yesterday.

The Buildbase BMW rider made the best of the changing conditions when he yet again just managed to hold off hard-riding Brookes in

a near blanket finish with just 0.1 seconds the difference at the line.

Shane Byrne again filled the top three places with another third place finish.

It was all about Brookes, however, in yesterday's race two as he made a blistering start to take the early lead which he held onto with ease to the flag.

The action this week turns to the Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix with practice beginning on Wednesday.

Racing incorporates the Dundrod 150 on Thursday before the main event on Saturday where a full seven-race programme is installed.

In the British Supersport 600 race one, which was held on Saturday, it was a clean sweep for Triumph as a 1-2-3 went to Billy McConnell - the race winner just getting the better of Graeme Gowland and Luke Mossley.

Carrickfergus rider Alastair Seeley, on the Mar-Train Yamaha, finished in fifth place with his near neighbour Glenn Irwin falling off unhurt on the last lap, putting paid to safe fourth place finish.

In race two yesterday, it turned out to be an all-Ulster affair. Alastair Seeley produced a wonderful race by taking the race win with four seconds to spare over fellow Carrickfergus rider Glenn Irwin on the Gearlink Kawasaki, with Graeme Gowland third on a Triumph.

Seeley was clearly delighted with his day's work.

"Its been a difficult weekend for me, with a big crash in qualifying, but the wet condition today was a saviour to me," he said.

"As I got the feeling of the wet and the setting of the bike was real good so I was able to slide the bike into the corners, but I am over the moon."
