Entries pour in for city half-marathon

WITH over 1,000 entries already received, the second Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half-Marathon is on target to break the inaugural record of 4,000 participants in 2013.

The event is an extension of the Belfast City Marathon and will be held on Sunday, September 14 at 9am. This year the race will start and finish at the King's Hall Pavilion. "We were overwhelmed with the participant numbers of our first half-marathon event in 2013 and are hoping that this success continues for our second year," said Danny O'Connor, chairman of the organising committee. "Our route will again showcase the city of Belfast by passing major landmarks including Queen's University, Belfast City Hall, Albert Clock and the Titanic Quarter."

Stephen Scullion cruised to victory in the inaugural Belfast Half-Marathon with well over 3,000 competitors completing the course from the City Hall to the Mary Peters Track. Triathlete Aileen Reid was the winner of the women's race despite taking second in the London ITU Series Triathlon just eight days earlier. Online entries are available at www.belfastcityhalfmarathon.net - deadline for entries is Sunday, August 31.
