Duarte added to Spar line-up

SOPHIE Duarte, last year's European cross-country champion, is a welcome late addition to Sunday's Spar Great Ireland Run 10K in the Phoenix Park, Dublin.

The French woman will renew her close rivalry with Ireland's Fionnuala Britton.

Last December, Duarte beat Britton into fourth place in the European Cross Country Championship, consigning to the dustbin the Wicklow woman's hopes of an unprecedented third victory in-a-row.

A strong women's field also includes Helen Clitheroe from Great Britain, second in 2007, and two leading Spaniards.

Diana Martin was fourth in last year's run and Alessandra Aguilar is the current Spanish half-marathon champion.

Unfortunately, Kenya's Milcah Chemos has had to withdraw from the event due to injury.
