Laudrup puts on brave face Goal record for Defoe

Europa League Group K:

Kuban Krasnodar 1 Swansea 1

SWANSEA boss Michael Laudrup put on a brave face after seeing his side suffer more injury-time heartbreak in a 1-1 europa League draw against Kuban Krasnodar in Russia. Ibrahima Balde's late equaliser denied Laudrup's men the chance to confirm qualification for the knockout stages from Group a - just two weeks after Kuban scored a last minute leveller at the Liberty Stadium.

Wilfried Bony had given Swansea first-half lead and they looked on course for the points after Alexandre Xandao had seen red for the hosts in the 75th minute, but Balde ensured the points were shared.

Laudrup said: "You can look from the outside and say they scored in injury time but i think the circumstances from before were completely different. "i understand the boys are disappointed but i said to them if we keep going like this with the same spirit and playing like we did in the first half, we will have no problems."

Europa League Group K:

Tottenham 2 FC Sheriff 1

Jermain Defoe revealed he had been given words of encouragement by martin Chivers before he surpassed his european goalscoring record in Tottenham's 2-1 win over FC Sheriff in the europa League last night.

The England striker converted a penalty to claim his 23rd european goal for the club, one more than Chivers managed during his time at White Hart Lane. It followed a first Tottenham goal for Erik Lamela as Spurs secured safe passage into the knockout rounds despite Ismail Isa grabbing a goal on 72 minutes to keep Tottenham on their toes. All eyes were on Defoe to see if he could make a history and he described how he had bumped into Chivers at White Hart Lane on Thursday night.

He said: "He's a legend, i saw him at half-time. "He said to me keep it going you'll get it "So nice for someone like martin to say that." "To go to the top of the list i'm delighted. i was confident, what an opportunity to do it."

Of Spurs' progress to the knockout stages, the former West Ham forward said: "it was never going to be easy. "The teams, they park the bus and hit us on the counter attack."
