China's Ding Junhui began International Championship quarter-final against Peter Ebdon in October and sank the winning ball in November as he stayed on course for a third successive ranking title.

It was 12.30am on November 1 in Chengdu, China, when Ding potted an excellent pink to leave Ebdon needing snookers in the ninth frame as he closed out a 6-3 victory.

Ding is still on course to become the first man since Stephen Hendry 20 years ago to win three major ranking events in-a-row, and Graeme Dott will stand in his way in the semi-final yesterday.

The Scot overcame Ronnie O'Sullivan's conqueror Liang Wenbo 6-3 to reach the final four.

Marco Fu faces Joe Perry in the other semi after knocking out world number two Mark Selby 6-5, while Mark Allen's conqueror Perry followed that up with 6-1 success over Ryan Day.

Two goals from Conal Gordon in the first half of extra-time secured a 3-12 to 2-11 victory for St Colman's, Newry over St Patrick's, Armagh yesterday to set up a Danske Bank Edmund Rice Rannafast Cup semi-final with St Patrick's, Cavan next week.

St Colman's opened strongly with the breeze and led 1-7 to 0-4 at the break, the goal coming from a Ryan Garvey penalty after 17 minutes. Armagh gradually worked themselves back into the game, helped by a 40th minute goal from Shea Conaty.

Conor Cullen closed the gap with a second goal in the 54th minute and he then held his nerve to pop over a late free and make it 2-8 to 1-11 to send the match into extra-time.

A brace of goals from Rostrevor's Gordon opened a significant gap in extra-time, and although points from Cullen, Ryan Shields and Caolan Farrell closed the gap, Niall Scullion fired over the insurance point to help St Colman's through.

St Colman's: C Gordon (2-0), R O'Neill (0-6), R Garvey (1-2), R McGreevy (0-2), R McEvoy, N Scullion (0-1 each).

St Patrick's: C Cullen (1-4), S Conaty (1-1), R Fields (0-3), C Farrel, V Brady, J Duffy (0-1 each).

n IN the Danske Bank Herald Cup, St Eunan's, Letterkenny came through with a strong second half performance to defeat St Ciaran's, Ballygawley 5-8 to 5-6 yesterday and set up a semi-final against either St Louis', Ballymena or St Mary's, Belfast. Despite getting goals from Ciaran Maloney, Rory Carr and Niall O'Donnell, St Eunan's still trailed at half-time by 3-5 to 4-4.

However, goals on the restart from Jake Whelan and Niall O'Donnell put the Donegal side six points up and they maintained that gap until the last couple of minutes when Ballygawley closed the gap with a late goal.
