Rangers booked their place in the final of the Ramsdens Cup in unconvincing style after scraping a 1-0 win over Stenhousemuir.

The Light Blues may be hot favourites to win the trophy but they made hard work of the last four tie at Ochilview.

A second half goal from Jon Daly - who netted a hat-trick at the weekend - was all that separated the two sides on the night.

The slim victory was in stark contrast to the 8-0 thrashing Rangers handed out to Stenny in a Scottish League One match at Ibrox last month.

This time around, the best of the chances fell to Arnold Peralta and Nicky Law, who were both denied by the woodwork, before Daly netted the decisive goal with just over 15 minutes to go.

Five-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan suffered an early exit from the International Championship in Chengdu after Liang Wenbo recovered from three frames down to reach the last 16.

O'Sullivan, who had not played in a major tournament since winning the World Championship at the Crucible in May, made a successful return to ranking event action by beating Anthony McGill in the first round in China on Monday.

The Essex potter built a 4-1 lead against Liang, but could not progress to a knockout meeting with Mark Davis - a 6-3 winner over Stuart Carrington - as his 26-year-old opponent won five straight frames to clinch a shock 6-4 victory.

Antrim's Mark Allen made it safely through to the last 16 with a 6-4 win over Dave Harold and now faces Joe Perry, while Dubliner Fergal O'Brien joined him courtesy of a 6-4 win over Rod Lawler. The action continues this morning.
