Crocker clears first hurdle in Kiev

LEWIS Crocker booked his ticket into the last-16 of the AIBA World

Junior Championships with a comprehensive win over Andreas Kokkinos in Kiev, Ukriane yesterday.

The Holy Trinity welterweigh dominated all three rounds and forced the Cypriot into a standing count in the third to seal a fine performance and earn a unanimous decision.

He'll now renew aquaintances with Azerbaijan's Roushan Musayev, who beat New Zealand's Ryan Scaife yester day, in the next phase.

Musayev edged Crocker (near right) 1-0 in the semi-finals of the 2011 European Schoolboy Championships in Grozny, Russia, the Azeri eventually winning gold.

"He won unanimous decision, that's him up and running. He's up against the guy who beat him last year and is the European champion," said Crocker's coach at Holy Trinity, Michael Hawkins. "It will be a big challenge, but he's up for it.

"His preparation has been exceptional. He has put a lot of effort in."

Oakleaf's Ryan Green (left) makes his first appearance of the championships today when he faces Kuwait's Yousef Saeed.
