Plenty of athletics action at Police and Fire Games

ThE athletics programme opens today in the World Police and Fire Games at the Mary Peters track in Belfast. the action this morning includes the decathlon, the 100m preliminaries (10am) and semi-finals (12.30pm), as well as the 2000m steeplechase. In the field, the men's hammer competition could be interesting. the afternoon schedule includes various 5000ms races with the first starting at 1.15pm and continuing until 3.15pm.

tomorrow is largely taken up by the finals of the 100m and 1500m with the walks in the afternoon. the decathlon is set to conclude with the 1500m at 4pm.

Sunday starts with a spate of sprint hurdle events followed by the 3000m steeplechase.

the heats and finals of the various 400m races dominate the afternoon programme. there is also plenty of field action with pole vault, long jump and javelin events all being decided. Admission is open to the public and is free. there is transport available from the centre of the city.
