Stars mark anniversary

AHOST of sports stars, including four former British and Irish Lions, will tomorrow help Special Olympics Ulster celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games and the lasting legacy of the Games in Ireland.

At a special celebratory event hosted by broadcaster Gerry Kelly in the grounds of Belfast City Hall between 2pm and 3pm, former Lions Trevor Ringland, Dick Milliken, Nigel Carr and Keith Crossan will take on Special Olympics Ulster athletes and members of the public in a number of sports including football, table tennis and basketball.

The event falls on the same day as contemporaries of the former international rugby stars face the Wallabies in the 2013 Lions Tour of Australia.

Special Olympics Ireland is asking people to 'Reignite the Feeling' and remember and celebrate that special time in 2003 by challenging themselves to do something that they had never done before, in the same way people with intellectual disabilities challenge themselves every day through Special Olympics.

In addition to attending the free event at City Hall, the public can also post their memories of the Games on Facebook (search: 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games - Reignite the Feeling) ortweet @SO_Ulster using the hashtag, #SO2003.
