1996: Manchester City signed former England striker Nigel Clough from Liverpool in a £1.5million deal.

2003: Michael Owen, then with Liverpool, admitted running up gambling losses of between £30,000 and £40,000.

2006: Former Rangers striker Kenny Miller signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic. The player spent one season at Parkhead before moving to Derby and returned to Rangers in June 2008.
