TYRONE captain Sean Cavanagh is confident that the Red Hands can return to Croke Park as a stronger side after their controversial semi-final defeat by reigning All-Ireland champions Kerry.

Cavanagh and Joe McMahon are the only current squad members in their thirties, both aged 32, and the Moy man feels the young team can improve, as they have already done this year:

“We’re an awful lot mentally tougher [than in 2014] and the guys that have been around the squad for two or three years – and we know they have serious quality there – have stepped up to the mark at certain times this year. They really drove this team on this year when they’ve needed to.

“They can only get better. Whenever you have an average age of 24, you know that rightly – whenever players hit 25, 26, 27 they really are hitting their peak at that stage. I definitely think there is mileage in this team yet and I just hope that they get the chance in the coming years to fulfil that potential.”
