Ireland's O'Neill wins at Euro Games

Ireland's Darren O'Neill survived an early onslaught to book his place in the next round of the heavyweight competition at the European Games in Baku.

O'Neill represented his country at middleweight in the London Olympics but has since moved up two divisions and conceded that counted against him in the early stages against Romania's Ionut Jitari.

O'Neill said: "Fourteen or 15 months ago I was a middleweight, so he had that advantage. But I had the speed and I landed the punches."

The 29-year-old added: "I'm not the daddy of the team any more - I'm the grandaddy. There's some good young boys on the team and I give them what advice I can give them."
