Video: climbing Slemish on St Patrick's Day

IN north Antrim the St Patrick's Day tradition is to climb Slemish and people come in their droves from far and wide.

Legend has it that St Patrick looked after livestock on the small mountain outside Ballymena.

Slemish rises almost 500 metres above the landscape and on a clear day the coast is visible from the top. The path to the summit is steep and rocky but a return trip should take no more than 90 minutes.

Energetic Irish News video journalist Ben Tucker scampered up Slemish this morning and his timelapse video offers you a bird's eye view of the experience.
