Southport's Tommy Fleetwood birdied the final hole of his delayed first round to sit three shots behind leader Robert Garrigus at the RBC Canadian Open.
Irish hopes at the Glen Abbey Golf Course are pinned on Séamus Power, Shane Lowry and Graeme McDowell.
After day one the trio sit in the chasing pack, Waterford man Power carding 4 under, with Lowry two back from that while Portrush star McDowell is currently the best of the three at 5 under par.
Fleetwood was one of a number of players to return at 7am local time (noon BST) on Friday to complete their opening 18 holes after play was ended prematurely on Thursday because of thunderstorms in Oakville, Ontario.
The Englishman was five under through 16 holes, becoming the first player on the PGA Tour this season to register three eagles in one round, when the suspension came, but he was able to pick up another shot at the par-five last to move into a share of sixth.
That group included compatriot Ian Poulter, who signed for a 66 at Glen Abbey before the weather came in.
However, it was a quick turnaround for Fleetwood who was due out for his second round at 8.20am local time (1.20pm BST).
Garrigus led by one after the end of the first round following a bogey-free 63 which included five successive birdies from the second hole.
