1886: The English Football Association approved the giving of caps to players appearing in international matches.

1980: Paul Allen became the youngest man to date to play in an FA Cup final at Wembley, aged 17 years and 256 days, as West Ham beat Arsenal 1-0.

1981: Galway beat Roscommon on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-3 at Croke Park to win the National Football League final. 

2004: Eddie Gray stepped down as Leeds manager but remained at the club in a consultancy role.

2009: Jenson Button won the Spanish Grand Prix ahead of Brawn team-mate Rubens Barrichello.

2015: QPR were relegated from the Premier League following a 6-0 humiliation at the hands of Manchester City.

2016: West Ham came from 2-1 down to beat Manchester United 3-2 in the final game to be played at Upton Park.
