1903: Details of the first Tour de France were announced by Henri Desgrange in L'Auto newspaper.

1996: Manchester City signed former England midfielder Nigel Clough from Liverpool in a £1.5million deal.

2003: Michael Owen, then with Liverpool, admitted running up gambling losses of between £30,000 and £40,000.

2006: Rangers striker Kenny Miller signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic. The player spent one season at Parkhead before moving to Derby and returned to Rangers in June 2008. The Scotland forward rejoined Rangers for a third time in 2014.

2009: Manchester City announced they had terminated discussions with AC Milan over the proposed transfer of former world footballer of the year Kaka.

2010: David Sullivan and David Gold completed their takeover of West Ham, having previously owned a controlling stake in Birmingham.

2010: Stade Francais prop David Attoub was banned for 70 weeks for making contact with the eye of Ulster's Stephen Ferris.

2012: Chris Coleman was appointed as the new Wales manager, succeeding his friend, the late Gary Speed.

2016: Rafael Nadal was knocked out of the Australian Open in the first round by Fernando Verdasco, who won 7-6 (8/6) 4-6 3-6 7-6 (7/4) 6-2.

2018: Juan Martin Del Potro ended Roger Federer's perfect record in 2018 and clinched his first ATP Masters title at Indian Wells.
