GARDAÍ have seized 45 cars after targeting the assets of an organised crime gang in Limerick.
Two houses, two business premises, car sales outlets and well four offices – including those of a solicitor, accountant, and a financial advisory service – were searched.
Forty-five vehicles, €43,000, £1,000 in cash and a Rolex watch were seized.
The investigation centres on a gang involved in the sale and supply of controlled drugs in the Limerick city and county areas, who are suspected of being involved in laundering the proceeds of their criminal conduct through a car sales outlet in Limerick city.
Documentation in relation to the ownership of assets, financial paperwork, mobile phones and electronic storage devices were also seized and are currently being examined by officers.
The Criminal Assets Bureau (Cab) with the assistance of the Garda emergency response unit, national drugs and organised crime bureau, stolen motor vehicle investigation unit, technical bureau and dog unit carried out a search operation.
No arrests have been made.
Eight searches were conducted in counties Limerick, Tipperary and Dublin.
Gardaí say the search operation is a significant development in the Cab investigation and will be seen as a major upset to organised criminal activity in the Limerick area.
