A MAN and a seven-year-old boy have died after a light aircraft crash in County Offaly.

The plane came down in bogland between Edenderry and Daingean on Sunday afternoon.

Gardaí said the aircraft, which took off from Clonbullogue Airfield at 2.45pm had 16 parachutists on board.

All 16 are understood to have jumped from the craft, but it crashed a short time later.

It is understood the pilot - reported to be from the UK - and a seven-year-old boy were still onboard. Their bodies were taken from the wreckage last night.

The Air Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.
