A MAN in his 30s was being questioned by Gardaí last night in connection with the discovery of body parts in Co Wicklow.

The man was arrested in Co Wexford last night.

Gardaí last night also revealed that following DNA evidence and forensic examinations that the victim was female, despite initial reports that the remains were that of a man in his mid-20s.

Superintendent Pat Ward said search teams have now discovered limbs and significant parts of a torso, as well as a head and hands which were found in a bag.

He said they are now satisfied that they have discovered most of the body and believe all of the remains are part of one body.

Mr Ward said: "We’re satisfied we have discovered most of body. (We're) talking about one body, not multiple bodies".

Gardaí also said there appeared to be no effort made to conceal the human remains, which were strewn on the side of the rural road. It is believed that the person whose remains were found had died around 10 days before the first discovery was made on Saturday.

A murder investigation has been launched.
