THERE are currently two potential bidders for Wrightbus, according to the DUP's Ian Paisley.

The north Antrim MP last night revealed that one bidder is from England, while the other is from the United States.

The Co Antrim firm went into administration last week with the loss of more than 1,200 jobs.

The Wright family, who founded the bus-making company in 1946, said the collapse of the business was due to a big fall in demand for buses in the UK market.

Details about the two bidders emerged in a letter sent to councillors last night ahead of a special meeting of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council to discuss the Wrightbus collapse.

Administrators for the firm briefed councillors about the developments last night.

It was reported by the BBC that Mr Paisley said he hoped a deal could be concluded by the end of next week. He also said the issue of the ownership of the Wrightbus land is likely to be addressed in any sale.

The land is currently owned by Jeff Wright separate to his role in Wrightbus and it going into administration.

It comes as hundreds of ex-employees are today expected to attend a rally at the Ballymena Showgrounds to demand action to save their jobs.

A second rally is due to take place outside the main Wrightbus gates on Friday.
