FOUR people were being questioned last night by detectives investigating the murder of a 50-year-old man in Lisburn.

The victim, named locally as Paul Smyth, was found dead in the living room of his home at Coulston Avenue in the Co Antrim town on Friday evening.

Police are understood to be following a "clear line of inquiry" and have arrested three men, aged 28, 32 and 49, and a 28-year-old woman.

Update: A 28 year old man has been released on bail pending further police enquiries.

Searches were carried out of number of properties in the Lisburn area and items removed for investigation. Police also carried out searches of undergrowth close to the victim's home.

SDLP MLA Pat Catney has said the "entire community is in shock".

"My thoughts are with the family and friends of the man at this very difficult time.

"Police are investigating the circumstances of this death and have made a number of arrests already.

"I would encourage anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in the area on Friday evening to come forward as soon as possible."

DUP councillor Jonathan Craig said he had spoken to police who had suspects in mind and were following a "very clear line of inquiry".

Detectives from the PSNI Major Investigation Team remained in Coulston Avenue yesterday with forensic officers at the scene.

Q Radio News spoke to one neighbour who said Mr Smyth was "a kind hearted soul".

Detective Chief Inspector Eamonn Corrigan said: "The 50-year-old was found in his living room at around 8.45pm on Friday night. A post mortem examination will be carried out in due course to determine the cause of his death.
