Northern Ireland hopes were resting with the latter - and also the bookies favourite - which features Co Antrim teenager Shannon Glenn.

The 17-year-old St Genevieve's High School who lives in Glenavy, is among the 22-strong group which draws its dancers from across Ireland.

Also competing in the final were Irish singer Sharyn Ward and Cork acrobats Rebel Acro.

Judges Louis Walsh, Michelle Visage, Denise van Outen, and Jason Byrne had returned as judges for the second series.

The winners of the live show on Sunday took home a €50,000 cash prize and won a spot on a primetime Christmas television special.
