SINN Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald and PSNI Chief Constable George Hamilton last night met for a "frank" conversation.

Both are in Washington DC this week, where they talked about the dispute over Mr Hamilton's successor.

The chief constable is due to retire in the summer.

Ms McDonald sparked anger when she said she would not have confidence in any current member of the PSNI senior command team replacing him.

Mr Hamilton called her remarks inaccurate and "an act of poor leadership".

The pair were expected to discuss issues around dealing with legacy.

Ms McDonald said she expected to have "a frank conversation".

The Policing Board has confirmed a Sinn Féin assembly member will sit on the panel to appoint the new chief constable.
