Flags on main Derry road condemned

THE SDLP has condemned the erection of unionist flags on one of the main arterial roads into Derry.

Waterside councillor Martin Reilly said youths put up flags at Caw Roundabout at the end of the city’s Foyle Bridge and painted kerb stones at the junction of Nelson Drive and Crescent Link.

While loyal order parades march through Nelson Drive, Mr Reilly said he was disappointed that kerb stones on a main road used by all sides of the community had been painted.

“Some people in the city’s Waterside want to mark territory and push their identity on to everyone. People have contacted me making it clear that they only thing they want to see at Caw Roundabout is traffic lights,” he said.
