ULSTER Museum is hosting a late-night art event where visitors will be allowed the chance to drink and draw their way around the popular Lines of Thought exhibition featuring art from the world’s greatest artists including Michelangelo, Rembrandt and Picasso.
Dedicated drawing areas will be set up during the 'Real Sketchy' night so visitors can get sketching before all artistic contributions will then be shared on projectors throughout the building.
Drinks will be served from four bars to get creative juices flowing. However with major masterpieces from world famous artists like Michelangelo currently on display, restrictions will apply and visitors are being asked not to bring drinks into the exhibition.
Opened in March, the Lines of Thought: Drawing from Michelangelo to now features seventy drawings from the British Museum’s internationally renowned graphic collection and explores the history of drawing as a thinking medium.
The exhibition places contemporary artists side by side with master draftsmen across five centuries.
Hannah Crowdy, Interpretation Manager, National Museums Northern Ireland said “We are delighted to host this truly novel event as we are always looking for ways to open up the museum to new audiences and make the wonderful collections housed in the museum more accessible to all.
“A perception still exists that museums must be quiet, sober places so the Real Sketchy event gives us a great opportunity to turn this notion on its head. By inviting people to come to the museum to appreciate the collections, while socialising, we think we’ll create a real night to remember.”
The Real Sketchy event takes place at the Ulster Museum tomorrow night from 7pm - 10pm and is open to over-18s only.
