Westlink re-opens but motorists are warned to expect delays

RUSH hour commuters are facing delays in Belfast after police closed the Westlink in Belfast.

In a statement on Tuesday, police said the Westlink is closed in both directions between Divis Street and York Street due to an ongoing incident on Clifton Street Bridge.

The Westlink was re-opened just before 6pm. 

Translink Metro tweeted to warn travellers of "severe disruption" due to the incident.

The public transport organisation displayed a traffic camera photo showing cars and lorries in long queues near the Roden Street off-slip of the Westlink.

A PSNI spokesman said: "The Westlink has now re-opened in both directions following an incident at Clifton Street bridge however delays are expected.
