American doughnut chain Krispy Kreme has been forced to cut back its opening hours at its new store in Dublin following a barage of complaints about noise.

Krispy Kreme opened its first 24-hour doughnut shop in Blanchardstown last month however it is to now curtail its opening hours following complaints from people living in neighbouring apartment complexes about the noise from car horns.

The company said yesterday that its drive-through facility would cease its 24-hour trading from last night and would instead open from 6am until 11.30pm.

In a statement, the company said: "We anticipated a warm welcome for Krispy Kreme in Ireland and have long wanted to open a store here, but the response has been way ahead of our most optimistic expectations".

Chief executive Richard Cheshire said the company has listened to "our neighbours" and "we're making changes immediately".

The noise issues comes just weeks after the company caused chaos in Belfast when members of the public queued up around the city hall to take advantage of a free doughnut giveaway by the company.

Hundreds of people braved the rain during their lunch breaks to snap up one of the 7,000 boxes of doughnuts the company was giving outside city hall to celebrate its first Irish store.

However, as the crowds swelled, the freebies soon came to an end when council officials spoke to the Krispy Kreme team about the need for a permit to hold the event.
