DOG lovers are being urged to bring along their furry best friends to a series of special events in Belfast city centre to raise much-needed funds for a charity which works to help stray dogs in Northern Ireland.

Lucy’s Trust helps dogs by providing interim care and re-homing.

To date, the charity has re-homed more than 300 dogs and is currently looking after 42 dogs on a family farm in Co Antrim.

The charity has announced a new partnership with The Dirty Onion in the Cathedral Quarter in Belfast city centre, which has just joined a select list of venues which are now dog-friendly.

Owners are encouraged to bring along their dogs to soak up the sun in the beer garden or enjoy a lazy day by the blazing fire inside the bar in winter months.

The bar will also be offering refreshments, tasty treats and special doggy merchandise.

The Dirty Onion will be running four events throughout the year to raise funds for Lucy’s Trust and dog lovers are being encouraged to show their support.

The first event, a Hot Dawg BBQ, will take this summer, followed by a Pug Quiz in October. A Big Doggy Picnic away day will then take place next spring, with a fourth event still has to be confirmed.

Rob Durston, co-owner of Lucy’s Trust said: "Some owners can find it stressful to leave their pets at home so it’s great to know that more and more places in Belfast are opening their doors to welcome dogs into their venues".

Other dog friendly bars in Belfast city centre include The Sunflower Bar, Aether and Echo and The Spaniard.
