THE brother of a woman who was one of three people shot dead by the UVF at a mobile shop in Co Armagh have vowed to rebuild a memorial set up in their memory after it was attacked for a second time.

Brendan Duffy described the attack on the memorial in Craigavon as "hurtful".

Mr Duffy's sister Eileen, who was 19, was one of three Catholics shot dead in the Drumbeg estate in March 1991.

The teenager was working in a mobile shop and being helped by her friend, Katrina Rennie (16) , when UVF gunmen shot them both.

A customer, Brian Frizzell (29) was approaching the shop when the shooting happened. He was forced to lie on the pavement where he was shot a number of times.

Two men were later convicted for their part in the triple killings. The attack was blamed on the UVF.

A memorial in memory of the three victims was erected on the 20th anniversary of their deaths.

Mr Duffy said it was "disappointing" that there are people in the community "who feel the need to do that".

"For me and anyone else who knows what the memorial was there for understands how hurtful this is," he said.

"We understand that it was a group of young lads who jumped over the fence around the memorial. There's a cross at the top, above a case, and it looks as if it has been shaken out and they broke all the bricks around it".

Mr Duffy said the memorial would be fixed "as good as we can do".
