The iPad Pro has been made available in a third size as Apple attempts to strengthen its hold on the tablet market.

The new Pro has a 10.5in display, designed to fit the space between the traditionally sized 9.7in and the large 13in versions.

It also features technology called ProMotion, which increases the refresh rate of the screen, meaning everything appears smoother.

This includes interactions with the Apple Pencil, which Apple says will feel more “fluid” than ever, as well as reducing battery consumption.

A new processor chip – the A10X Fusion – makes the new iPad Pro up to 30% faster, Apple says.

The camera has been updated, and now features the same front and rear-facing versions as the iPhone 7 – 12 megapixel in the rear and a seven megapixel front-facing camera.

As part of the iOS 11 software update due in the autumn, the iPad will soon feature a customisable dock which will enable users to add more apps to the space at the bottom of the screen.

Drag and drop is also being introduced to the tablet for the first time as part of enhanced multitasking tools, meaning users will be able to drag content between apps more easily.

The Apple Pencil is to be made more powerful, and will soon be able to instantly sign and mark documents as well as launch the Notes app on a locked iPad just by tapping the display.

The tech giant confirmed the new Pro will start at £619 for the 64GB with WiFi model, and £749 for the 64GB, WiFi and cellular model.
