The first trailer for Call Of Duty: WWII has been revealed by publisher Activision.

The gaming giant used a live event in London to unveil the first details about the game – due out on November 3 – which takes the hugely popular franchise back to its original setting.

Activision chief executive Eric Hirshberg said of the announcement: “The game we’ve been waiting to show you.”

He added that the decision to return the franchise to the Second World War had been approved three years ago, and that the firm “knew it was time to go back to our roots.”

In recent years the series has moved to increasingly futuristic settings to mixed reviews – including a space-based, far-future universe in last year’s Infinite Warfare.

There was also good news for impatient fans who can’t wait until the end of the year to play the new game, Activision revealed a private multiplayer beta will take place later this year.
