Honda puts a Nürburgring lap record-holder on your driveway for less than £300 a month

THE previous Civic Type R was long-awaited and short-lived; Honda isn't planning to repeat that mistake with the new 10th generation Civic, so is quick out of the blocks with its new hot hatch.

The car is due to arrive with dealers in July, and Honda says it will cost from £30,995, with a better specified GT model costing £32,995.

Honda has also taken the step of announcing PCP pricing for the new car, with deals starting at £299 a month on a three-year 5.9 per cent contract.

That's a tempting price to pay for a bona fide Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record-holder...

GT models get blind spot warning, cross traffic monitor, dual-zone climate control, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, sat-nav and Honda's in-car connectivity package, wireless phone charging, an upgraded stereo and LED front fog lamps.

The new Type R's 2.0-litre VTec engine is based on that found in the previous car, though the power has been turned up to 316bhp and torque now stands at 295lb.ft. The six-speed manual gearbox now gets a rev match control system - not that stirring gears with a Honda gearbox is any great hardship.
