I don't know about you, but I love it when the underdog emerges victorious.

There's just something great when the good guy wins over the villain or when the subject of vile criticism proves her critics wrong.

Danish actress Brigitte Nielsen did just that this week when she finally spoke out about the abuse she has received since she gave birth to her fifth child, a daughter Frida.

In May, at the age of 54, the former Rocky star, who is married to Italian Mattia Dessi, announced she was having a baby after undergoing IVF using eggs that she had frozen when she was 40.

In June, she gave birth to her first daughter. However, at a time when she should have been enjoying motherhood again she was instead the target of online trolls who criticised her for having a child in her fifties.

What a disgrace.

This week, a gorgeous and glowing Brigitte took on those who had targeted her when she gave a TV interview.

Previously married to Sylvester Stallone, the actress revealed how she was harshly judged by others who scolded her for her life choice.

She highlighted the double standard between men and women, whereby men are allowed to remarry and have children when they're older "and no-one raises an eyebrow" but it's different for women.

"Men are always safe, no matter what they do they are always safe; they can have kids, they can change wives I don't know how many times.

"If you're Brigitte Nielsen you've been married a couple of times, you have a couple of kids, you make some mistakes, everybody's out to get you. If you're a man it's like nothing ever happened".

The star also revealed she felt more prepared for motherhood as an older woman.

"I am tired but I call it the happy tired, it gives you that inner energy that is so fantastic and I am super proud".

She also advised other women who may be getting older to freeze their eggs, telling them: "There is a chance and where there's a will there's a way and stay positive and just go for it".

What a wonderful role model.

Don't get me wrong, the choice she has made is a tough one but it is right for her and fair play to her for following her dream when others were so vehemently against it.

I wish Brigitte and her family every luck for their future together and I can only hope that those who appear dead set on raining on someone else's parade will also find some true happiness one day - they need it.

TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp found herself at the centre of criticism this week after revealing she smashed her children's iPads after they broke her screen time rules.

The Location, Location, Location star, who has two sons and two stepsons, said she took drastic action after her children flouted their permitted time. However she was immediately criticised for not donating the devices to charity.

The property expert has stood by her actions, stating it had "nothing to do with money" but was a stand against an "unhealthy influence in her home".

Well done Ms Allsopp, do your own thing and stuff the rest.

Competition

With the dark mornings and dark nights moving in, how do you fancy winning a “gripping page turner” that is “deliciously engaging”?

Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier tells the story of Geo, whose best friend Angela disappeared without a trace at the age of 16.

Years later, her body is discovered in the woods near Geo's childhood home, revealing her as another victim of the notorious serial killer Calvin James, Geo's high-school boyfriend.

For 14 years, Geo knew what had happened and told no one, carrying the secret until she was arrested and sent to prison.

But why?

To Geo, Calvin is more than a monster, a serial killer with no remorse.

And while Geo did her time, Calvin escaped and went on the run.

Now released, Geo is ready to start over.

As chilling secrets are revealed, everything turns on what really happened one fateful night, almost 20 years ago.
