AND so to Florida where The Body, aka Elle McPherson, has been sharing what makes her tick. In short, raw food and a lorra lorra exercise. You didn’t think she was sitting around in her pyjamas eating crisps did you?
When you earn a crust by virtue of looking like Elle then ‘crisp’ is a word you associate with sheets and autumn mornings.
The Body has been sharing her lifestyle choices with New Beauty magazine and it’s as enlightening as it is removed from yours and Sleb Safari’s reality.
For a start she awakens around 5 or 5.30am and listens to a guided meditation or does some “hands-on Reiki”. Rather than spend this quiet time checking what her book club WhatsApp group have been messaging about Elle prefers to “breathe and just prepare for the day for 10 or 20 minutes”.
Then she either practices yoga, goes swimming, paddle boarding or waterskiing or takes her dogs for a walk and she also makes sure to walk in thigh or knee-deep seawater for 40 minutes to an hour every day.
Sleb Safari is exhausted just thinking about it. Normal service will resume once Sleb Safari has had a Jaffa Cake and a lie down.
On top of that Elle sunbathes for 30 minutes daily and spends time in the infrared sauna which she treated herself to 18 months ago.
“I try to do it every day for an hour— I’ll watch TV in there or do a meditation or a phone call.
"That’s been phenomenal for the quality of my skin and the capacity of my body to detox and really function well. There’s a great company here called Therasage; they sell a portable version where your head stays out, which is nice because it gets up to 140 to 170 degrees in there.”
The TV watching make more sense now that we know the sauna has a sunroof. It’s a lovely image though isn’t it, of Elle’s head sticking out of a wooden crate like a giraffe being transported between zoos.
But what of Elle’s diet; what is the elixir of youth she is mainlining?
“If I’m really in my groove, I love a raw, plant-based diet. That’s how I feel best. I eat grains, nuts, seeds, beans, vegetables, almond milk, hemp milk, chia seeds.”
When Sleb Safari is really in its groove it loves a cheese and bread based diet. That’s how it feels best. It eats cheddar, goat’s cheese, brie, Camembert, Roquefort, mozzarella, Gorgonzola, baguette, focaccia and ciabatta. And ever mindful of the five-a-day mantra, Sleb Safari is sure to eat the slice of orange slice in its Aperol Spritz. Who would have guessed Sleb Safari and Elle McPherson had so little in common?
Elle says she likes to make her own granola. “In a dehydrator” no less.
“As far as animal products are concerned” she tucks into a poached egg “every now and then” along with Parmesan cheese and goat’s cheese “but they’re not staples of my diet”. That’s a pity, Elle, you’d probably enjoy them.
Sleb Safari will defend anyone’s right to make an informed decision to eat what they want but it is sceptical about unbending, restrictive diets. Sure, it’s important to eat healthily, but dehydrated granola and hemp milk aren’t going to make you live forever.
Guess Sleb Safari and Elle McPherson are just going to have to agree to disagree on this one.
Wham's Last Christmas The Inspiration For New Film
GOOD news for fans of rom-coms, George Michael and Christmas (which, surely, is everybody on Earth?) with confirmation that a film is being made inspired by Wham’s 1984 hit Last Christmas.
It’s a holiday romance set in London and was written by Emma Thompson and Bryony Kimmings with George Michael’s involvement.
It’s going to be directed by Paul Feig who was responsible for Bridesmaids and Ghostbusters so with all that pedigree this film has huge potential.
In an interview with Radio Times, Bryony Kimmings said she had included a gay narrative to reflect the “queer politics” George Michael was interested in.
“I doubt there’ll be a trans lead… But I hope that there’s quite an element of queer in there, because you know it’s the story – it’s based on the song, Last Christmas. George was such a massive advocate for gay rights – and a massive gay himself! – so I hope there’s a gay narrative in there.”
