North's claimant count falls by 1,000 during August

THE number of people claiming unemployment-related benefits fell by 1,000 in August, meaning they have decreased by 10,400 over the year to 42,000, according to figures in the latest Labour Market Report published by the Northern Ireland Statistics & Research Agency. The north's unemployment rate, though, increased by 0.1 percentage points over the quarter to the end of July and fell over the year by 0.4 per cent to 6.2 per cent, which is above the UK rate (5.5%).
