THE Waterboys have announced their return to Bangor next year as part of the 2018 Open House Festival.

The summer outdoor show on Friday August 3 is to be held on Bangor seafront and will find Mike Scott leading his nine-piece group through a "festival set" of classic tracks and material from the current Waterboys album, Out Of All This Blue.

"Out Of All This Blue always wanted to be a double album, even before I wrote the songs," comments Scott of the new record, which was released in September.

"So, I took a leap into the dark and the songs came, first a few then a flood, in colours of pop, funk, soul even a little country and French chanson. And when I selected from them for the album there was only one standard – each song had to be good enough to make it onto a top class single Waterboys album.

Next year marks the 35th anniversary of The Waterboys, and indeed the 30th anniversary of the classic Waterboys LP Fisherman’s Blues, which brought the band their first international attention.

The Bangor concert will include a full supporting bill featuring local singer-songwriter King Cedar, AKA Stephen Macartney, and other acts still to be announced.
