THE family of a Belfast grandfather tragically killed when a car collapsed on him have described the 67-year-old as a "wonderful man".

Dominic Murray died on Monday afternoon in the accident at his home at Cadogan Park, off the Lisburn Road.

It is understood the father-of-five, who was originally from Owenvarragh Park in Andersonstown in west Belfast, was checking something underneath the car when it collapsed on him.

A married grandfather-of-10, Mr Murray had moved to England and been successful in business before returning to Northern Ireland in the last decade.

His family last night described what had happened as a "tragic accident".

Mr Murray's sister Annie said they were "grieving the loss of a beloved brother and special uncle to his nieces and nephews who will miss him so much".

"This gentleman, with a huge personality, became a successful entrepreneur having built a multi-million pound software company in the UK over many years and returned back to his home land of Northern Ireland to retire and spend time with his children and grandchildren that he loved so much.

"His generosity was bigger than his ambition and his personality filled a room.

"The greatest story teller of them all, and all who knew him will miss this wonderful man."

SDLP assembly member Pat Catney, who knew Mr Murray and his family, described the 67-year-old as a "hard worker and a good businessman".

"He was an absolute larger-than-life character," he said.

"He was one of those guys who would light up a room. He played guitar and he sang, and to me, he was always very welcoming.

"Any time I went over when he was working in England, he went out of his way to engage with us and he was always glad to see someone from home".

Mr Catney added: "When we heard the news, we couldn't believe it. Dominic was very active. He had the sports car, his pride and joy. He always liked a good car did Dominic. It is a terrible loss.

"I'm thinking of his wife Brenda and greater family circle and his two sisters. He will be a big miss".

Requiem Mass for Mr Murray will take place at 11.30am on Friday at St Agnes' Church.

A service will take place afterwards at Roselawn Crematorium at 1.30pm.
