John Manley was a late comer to journalism, a fall back after failing to reach super stardom in his preferred career as a professional drummer.

A journalist for 16 years, having survived the late nights and two hour lunches of the Irish News business desk he was appointed Political Correspondent in 2013 .

A keen gardener and environmentalist, other hobbies include walking, geology and - despite it being entirely age inappropriate - house/techno music.

Previous winner of CIPR Business Journalist of the Year and CIPR Environmental Journalist of the Year.
