Egypt's border not relevant to fate of Gaza people

BERNARD Mulholland has a short memory (April 20). I replied to his comments regarding the Israeli siege of Gaza some months ago in The Irish News.

He maintains that Israel can not be fully responsible for the siege as Egypt borders Gaza in the south and keeps its frontier closed and my contention that Israel has besieged Gaza by land sea and air is therefore incorrect.

I have in my previous letter explained that Egypt receives $2bn annually from the Israeli controlled US Congress to keep the Palestinians cooped up in the 'prison camp', as described by British prime minister David Cameron, thus completing the siege. Egypt will not easily give this up.

Is Mr Mulholland bringing up these quaint suggestions to take our minds off the three ferocious invasions of Gaza by Israel, the third of which in 2014 killed more than 2,000 civilians, including nearly 700 children?

Does he know how many Israelis were killed by what he describes as "rocket attacks"? One Israeli and one Thai national. So much for the rockets which, in their effects, could better be described as large fireworks.

In a previous letter I explained, for the benefit of Mr Muholland and Mr Andrew Shaw and other Hasbara, that Israel's criminal invasions of Gaza are calculated to destroy the power of Hamas which stands in the way of the development of Gaza's natural gas fields by Israel and the Palestinian Authority.

Egypt's border with Gaza is of no relevance to the fate of the unfortunate people of Gaza.
