We must not let Catholic Church be silenced

READ with disbelief Hindus calling on the Catholic Church to discipline Fr Colhoun for putting Catholic teaching and practice ahead of paganism. Hinduism is based on the worship of countless gods and goddesses. Eastern religious practice expresses itself through Yoga, transcendental meditation etc. The students of Yoga and TM are encouraged to empty their minds and psyche and make contact with spirit beings. This contravenes the first commandment of God - I am the Lord your God, you shall have no other gods before Me.

I agree with Fr Colhoun.

We are leaving ourselves open to the influence of Eastern pagan belief. The president of the Hindu Society, Rajan Zed, claims yoga achieves physical and mental fitness.

So too does walking and swimming etc without us having to practice eastern beliefs. Catholics suffering from maladies of the mind often find relief and solace through the Sacrament of Confession and Communion, where the one, true God is present during the Consecration of the Eucharist.

The Hindu president calls on Bishop McKeown to discipline Fr Colhoun.

I too respectfully call on the bishop to support the disciples of Peter and make known Catholic teaching.

While Hindus are free to practice their religion, so too must Catholics/ Christians be free to follow Christ without apology or discipline.

For those readers wanting to know more about the New Age movement that promotes eastern belief ahead of Christianity will find detailed knowledge in Constance Cumbey's book

The Hidden Dangers of the Rainbow.
