Attempting to rewrite history
IN the ongoing Sinn Féin programme of rewriting history Jim Gibney (September 17) has the absurdity to tell us Paisley will be remembered best as a peacemaker. Maybe he should tell that to the families of the 3,000-plus souls who were put to a premature grave as a result of Paisleyism.
As we all know now, Paisleyism and Sinn Féin provisionalism were compatible in many ways in that they played into each other's hands in order to gain political power. So maybe there's good reason why Jim Gibney and co find it convenient to be kind to Paisley. For those who seek to remember him, there will be many who wish he had never been born.
